“Shoulda probably “ put some shims between the I beam and floor joists before dropping 2” of flooring above . Unless you figured it would all automatically level it self when it dropped. I don’t doubt the I beam can flex when that much weight is dropped on it. A level works well with these measures.

That beam is too small in height to suspend the rafters over that whole length. You should probbly put in two jack posts for 20 ft length. Keep safe.

Put vertical posts around existing shelving to the joists, use that area to store the heavier parts upstairs. keep a post that you can set under I beam when hoisting. Also exhaust fan makes huge difference.

you can't take those gable braces out the entire thing will come down in a hurricane I don't like the fitment of the i-beam to the floor joists either, also I would be installing bridging and probly two more wood 6x8 or 8x8 beams, on either side of the steel one and some jack posts to help level it t he crack in the wall is from the one side of the building sinking down and pulling away a old building like this needs all the help you can give it Please at least put the two extra beams in on either side of the steel with jack posts ,

The new property/HQ is coming together very nicely,keep up the good work,she's looking good and the place will be finished in no time at this pace. It must be a hard transition from the nice garage at Johns parents house to basically an old shack in the woods but,it's getting together slowly but surely. I'm sure you guys enjoy having a space that's all yours where you make the rules. There's lots of space to actually give the machines full throttle and open up for some fun rides,plus there are no neighbors around to complain about the carts/bikes ripping around while you're trying to have fun. It's the perfect place to ride and make as much noise as y'all want by the looks of it.

Supposed to drill holes in the i beam and bolt 2 LVL beams on either side. If you get a lot of constant and strong wind your beam will bow a lot. I would not suggest putting any weight on that ibeam to hoist things around until you do additional stiffening to that beam, a single 2x4 is not going to keep the floor from collapsing.

Might consider notching blocks out and putting the ibeam on the blocks instead of the wood. They hold way more load. Thats the way everyone I have seen is done with a gantry type hoist for lifting stuff. All the best , excited for you guys!!!

i would put a metal support beam to support i-beam in both ends and weld those together then put 5 big bolts through the walls

I've been a welder for over 30 years I beams have a crown hope to checked it before going up with it. Just my 2 cents

****Heres how to permanently fix the walls step by step CHEAP FIX this will prevent further shifting and leaning etc. this method is known as rodding**** 1. CAREFULLY drill a few 1.5 inch holes in the block from top to bottom with a hammer drill and masonary SDS bit DO NOT drill into the very bottom blocks located on the floor 2. After drilling proceed to literally shove rebar inside of the wall make sure that the rebar is touching the floor inside of the wall make sure that the rebar is also touching the ceiling you may need to wire the rebar together to get the proper length depending on the length of the rebar repeat steps on and two and make sure to do each side of the wall in stages ex. Finish rodding one section of the wall and let the 5000 PSI concrete cure inside of the wall....then proceed to the next section 3. Mix 5000 PSI concrete in a bucket the consistency needs to be like pancake mix so it may do its job and fill cracks and crevices in the wall even cracks you cannot see with the naked eye 4. After mixing the 5000 PSI concrete start filling in the holes one by one that you drilled until concrete starts to ooze out so your basically topping it off 5. Patch holes with grout with a margin troul 6. Give at least 24 hours for curing time 7. fill in cracks (joints) with a striker tool using grout mix a little portland cement with the grout to help with strength and makes it more easy to work with 8. I recommend applying stucco to the walls it not only looks great but it also adds protection

I've done a little slab jacking and sometimes we'll just use harbour freight bottle jacks. Get them all set in place and burry them in concrete. You can cut or bore a hole in the slab and dig out enough space for a jack and then fill it. If you have a lot of surface area, rent a stinger/concrete vibrator to help it flow into all of the gaps. Glad you guys have your own space!

Did anyone check the cinder blocks to see if they were filled with concrete? I'm guessing bt the settling cracks in the wall they aren't. That said they aren't going to be strong enough to depend on for hoisting. I would weld or bolt a steel column at both ends and bolt those to the floor with wedge anchors in the concrete.

I think you should wedge thin wood inbetween the floor and the steel beam, it would stop any movement or bounce.

The cardboard "door" is an invitation to bust your ass really hard. All openings in the floor should remain visible until finished. It's easy to step on the cardboard "temporary" cover when you are working (distracted) and not really paying attention. A man lost his life falling several floors after moving a piece of plywood on a job I was on many years ago.

Hey John that is called a Mandage. In the paint shop they used to pour paint thinner on a cut and wrap it in a shop towel and tape it up with masking tape. You guy are doing great!

4:19 you guys now as much about building a proper load bearing girder as you do fabrication. This reminds me of two kids building a tree fort at 11 years old. 10:48 the gantry trolley is seriously pushing it. Better let lift anything more than a 212.

Because of the low ceilings and limited space, I'd do a fume ventilation hood on the bottom floor that vents directly outside for welding and painting fumes as well as running engines indoors.

The end post's supporting the i- beam should of had a horizontal beam under them to spread the load across the floor evenly i've seen slabs crack around post like that before.

Also 2 beam clamps with J shaped emt conduit makes a great bicycle hanger for service.

If you put vertical bracing over the I beam between the joists it will firm up the floor upstairs and distribute the load better

Guys--absolutely love your channel. I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here to help out. I'm a licensed North Carolina Professional Engineer, and I have to agree with several of the comments I've seen about the beam. A lot of it comes down to allowable deflection (bending) and desire deflection, and with your use of a trolley shifting around a point load could cause further complications. Keep in mind that deflection is the result of the square of the length of the beam. Thus, if you cut the effective length in half (by using a post, etc.) you cut down the deflection by a factor of four. I would also consider a more formidable way of affixing the beam on the ends. I've seen suggestions from through-bolting to epoxy, and one mention of welding a vertical steel beam on both ends and bolting it to the floor. All of these would be considerably better than tapcons. If you are going to support it on the ends with wood, keep the cross-sectional area of the wood post as large as possible to distribute the load of the beam--think a 6x6 post. Resting it on the wall would be ideal, but you'd need the block to be grout filled with a footer underneath. I just want to make sure you guys are able to keep making great videos for a long time to come!

For some reason I had to watch this episode again. I'm sure you know that the right-hand wall (As you face the back) Has a huge crack in it. Wait wait WAIT! that wall has to be rebuilt before you set the "I" beam. Move all the stuff and see it for yourself. It's not your fault, that garage was built as a Garage. Not meant to be used as a building shop. I'd check the floors as well. IT WONT BE FINE! T.

Did you do any research on load bearing uprights? Your setup is super sketchy, so sketchy I wouldn't have done it that way and I have done some sketchy construction. You can guesstimate the weight of the Ceiling and roof just by knowing how much individual pieces weigh. Those uprights you have WILL split from the load you have on them. Steel uprights welded to the crossbeam is the proper way to do it. Mike Holmes would take you two out back and beat you with a 2x4. A Structural Engineer would have a heart attack walking in there.

Plz water pressure wash the font wooden sliding door. It’ll take all that gray colour off the wood and leave it looking like new. Also way easy then replacing the door!

Please store all your fuel and other major flammables outside in a shed or at a minimum in a proper flammable cabinet. My uncle (who lived 5 minutes from Boscoe Beach in Dudley ) burned himself and his garage to the ground.

Hey guys, been a huge fan of yours for a long time and really happy to see you get your new shop! It's all about learning and trying new stuff and having fun! As an architect and builder there are things that I would have done differently, but it's all fine and for a shop it (as you guys say) will be fine. I'd say those diagonals upstairs were for lateral resistance. They don't really use them anymore because the osb/plywood on the roof creates a diaphragm that the old 1x8 boards didn't. If you want to keep them out I'd say add osb to the bottom of the roof rafter on one end of the roof from the floor up to the peak with nails at 12 inch max spacing (osb oriented horizontally so it reaches 8feetvfrom end of the shed). If you ever feel it's too bouncy with the beam you can weld a "WT" (T shape) to the bottom of your beam. It's like half an I beam or "WF" like you put in but you would still be able to use you beam hoist. Also that post you put in the middle of the attic only added more roof load to the new beam and reduced it's capacity even more, so I'd take that out unless the roof needs it.
