Our four wheel drive power wheels go kart is close to completion! In today's episode, we finish fabricating and installing the drivetrain, meaning we officially have a 4WD chain driven go kart! The packaging is VERY tight on this build; the Tillotson 228cc engine, torque converter, steering, front suspension, and CV axles are all really tightly built, making for a cool/efficient look, but servicing this machine will be more involved than a typical go kart. I think it's worth it!

The track is NOT too narrow. If it were more narrow, the center of gravity would be WAAAY too high to have any fun with it.

A mid-size metal lathe would come in handy to clean up those sprockets after welding. An older refurb would be good or even a cheap overseas one could handle the small jobs. Great project.

Hey guys you should see what I've built out of all scrap metal and a piece of golf cart for my son for Christmas. Its a actual mini tow truck with working lights and radio and loadable flat bed . Its 3/4 way done and its going to be awsome. Im not a mechanic or car builder so its amazing what I gave done would love to share with yall.

john, why haven't you welded up the hole you made in your plasma cutter table? without the water puddle, you'll only wind up making more holes in it by putting it off. not to mention making your shop dirtier because the water isn't collecting the metal spray from cutting. electronics like your laptop and cameras don't like steel dust, and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

You guys might want to set up a ventilation hood for that plasma. That stuff is really really nasty stuff to breathe in. Plus it makes a mess of everything in the shop. It'll put a coating of thick film and dust on everything especially Electronics which it will destroy.

Seeing as you need to space out the rear wheels a few inches on each side for stability,tracking and track width why not mount the reat shocks outboard of the frame in an almost vertical location gaining both internal spacing as well as more shock leverage on the chassis...js...

Not for nothing, but the use of all these idler sprockets makes a fella ask, you obviously don't know old motorcycle history, so you don't know that through the 80's, Honda used nylon chain guides for all of their OHC timing chains, right? If you used a serious amount of chain lube, the guides might last a year or so, considering how often you ride. Psst, and you can make them as long or narrow as you need them...

Hmm hate to say it guys but honestly it might be better off going with the same setup on the rear end instead of a solid axel. I think it would ride a heck of a lot better too. Im sure you guys know the grind hard guys. Might wanna follow a few of their ideas, not saying ya got to just think it might be better off in the long run.
