Honda's 50cc four stroke engine found on their legendary Z50A and Z50R mini bikes are reliable, efficient, and lightweight, but they're not powerful. In today's episode, we're rebuilding a stuck 50cc 3 speed engine from a 1999 Honda Z50R with a stroker crank, larger piston, and racing head and camshaft for a potent 108cc engine.

I would have just bought a PIRANHA 140cc engine from them instead and saved myself $147 not only that the PIRANHA 140cc engine is 4 speed and has far more power than a 108cc

Spray the engine cases with eagle one mag wheel cleaner. Be careful with anodized and zinc plated parts. But it will clean up engine cases like new. Just dont let it sit on too long. I clean my bikes with it almost every wash.

Hey guys. When you take the clutch cover off, replace the oil pump to a high volume one, drill the case to 2mm with the oil pump out. Its the port that delivers oil to the head/camshaft.(that is a old mod) also always remove the oil screen, inspect and clean it out. Ive seen so many clogged with gasket materials, gunk and sludge. Love seeing this video

He should not be allowed to ride it until he's able to kickstart it without lifting his other foot up. So bizarre how he kickstarts a dirt bike. Looser. Stick to pull starts.

Man, throw an AHP 4 speed in it. You already split the cases. You can do it right the first time, or you can do it twice.

I had to skip ahead when he started putting it together. Kind of OCD when it comes to cleaning stuff before disassembly and a clean work area. I think I got dirt in my eyes just watching LOL

Rotate the exhaust end cap so it turns down. With heat tile on the inside of the plastic. It will be fine.

its the shifter part that goes onto the shaft.. just move it over a tooth and it will shift

I use a pair of needle nose pliers on the nut with Vise Grips at the pivot point for those nuts. Works great.

plug all the holes, power wash, dry, glass bead blast then disassemble. If you like the looks of the case, clear coat . then disassemble. use dish soap to clean after assembly. just an idea... nothing replaces displacement!!!! go big or stay on the porch!

Whoever let that bike rot should be slapped. The guy doing all the work sounds like a family guy voice. The dirty engine and even setting the brand new piston on the dirty engine had me pulling my hair. Otherwise an entertaining video.

lol i built one of them engines when i was 12 in my bedroom im 48 now, i put it on a go kart, please can you stop calling it a jug, its a barrel always has bean. i always just put the 72cc barrel on them fastest mopeds on the block.

Dont use Assembly Lube on the rings, just use regular oil. It can cause ring failure.

That compression reminds me of my old '85 Honda XR500. It had so much compression I still have a chunk missing from my shin when it kicked back on me. Me only weighing 160lbs I struggled to kick it over, especially in the winter. Below 40°f and it would take everything I had to try and get it turned over. Man I miss it. I would love to have another 86 XR500R or the 85 XR500

I never knew the piston rings can actually pull engine oil up into the combustion chamber, if installed with the numbers on it facing down. Can't believe I have never actually heard anyone mention that before...

Heys guys I wouldn’t be using flat heads to spilt the cases I always just install few case bolts 180 of each other an take a small hammer an go around an tap each bolt an the case slowly spilt every time don’t wanna mess up the sealing areas especially 2 stock engines . Do as u plz just something I’ve learned over the years

Dish washers are great for cleaning engine cases, Go Salt free though or the salt get in the alloy when its heated up while washing.

You should only have to pull off the right side case, and recheck the orientation of the shift arm and dentent arm, this is a common issue and should be an easy fix👍🏿 nice video ☺️

Get yourself a brass hammer or a plastic hammer . Every time you use that steel hammer on that block makes me cringe ? Just a suggestion take it or leave it .

That little thing is going to be fast, wear your back brace with it. it could flip over pretty easily, its gonna rip dude. Look for a yamaha fat cat with 3 wheeler tires there super fun, fast, and cool
