We're getting closer to completion on our mini trophy truck 1000cc "Trophy Kart", in today's episode we mount the seat, fabricate brackets for and install the panhard bar for the rear solid axle, service the rear brakes and install Mazda Miata brake calipers and pads for the front, and more.

That master cylinder is awfully close to the engine. If ever you experience brake fade, it may be due to this. In this case you may need to put a heat shield between the master cyl and the engine. And tell me you are going to de-rust that rear axle ! That being said, I really like that build

The brake system you are working on is called a leading/trailing system. The front shoe is the leading shoe and supplies most of the friction. The rear shoe is the trailing shoe and only supplies about 35% of the friction in drum brakes.

When I did drum brakes disc brakes were just becoming popular. Remember in 1971 most of the cars were from the 60’s.

When I worked at a gas station in 1971 I was taught to do drum brakes by doing one side at a time that way you can always walk over to the other side and see if you’re screwed up

You guys are doing great on that thing can’t wait to see it and can’t wait to see the little rascal mini bike also! Ike I work at a brake business and hate doing brake shoes. So many modern cars still have them. Cheaper to make I guess. John there are dozens of different designs depending on manufacturer and model and year. The older the vehicle the more springs and pins etc. Easiest brake shoes to do are silverados 2006-2013 very easy...everything else on other cars 👎

There's a simple [kinda simple] way to make an anti-sway assembly that will NEVER kick your axle over. Seeing as you already have 2 mounting brackets on the axle of the same general size, shape and original location, all you need to do is build an opposing center hinged scissor lift assembly. This resists both side-to-side axle swing from taking corners AND from axle elevation changes! /)/) ( 'ˬ') @(>_ )-b \) \) If you need a sketch of what I am talking about, let me know, I'll draw one up and post it on my DeviantArt profile! ~( 'w')/

i have a question so let’s say i’m going fast on a kart, and i hit a small bump. i almost loose control bc of how finicky my steering it it’s very sensitive is there any ways i can deal with that. do y’all know what i mean?

Check for loose play in the steering and address that. You can change the location of the tie rods to make them steer slower by moving the locations of the tie rods further out on the tabs on the spindles or closer to the steering column tab. Might have to drill new holes. Hope it makes sense

Isaac, There are two go carts on the left of the dump road just put out this week. One has a Honda style motor. The other has disc brakes. The dump is the one near the end of River Road. Free I think!

Love the dynamic between both of you, Hot Cart Tip, find a Dune Cat it's a go kart with ATC tires and a green sparkly fiberglass chassis, I Bet it places top 5 on your track! About killed myself 6 times over in that cart as a kid

Watch GHPC on how he makes A-arms for Cindy and Colonel Senders you'll need good travel and the cross cart front end just wont cut it same with rear. Great video guys just need to make it more like a ATV suspicion not a go-carts!!

I remember when we used to charge more for disc brake jobs than drum! Those Chevette rear drums are not great when you have to change the wheel cylinders. I think Some Camaros of the era also had that nightmare clip design. On top of that, the parts aren't so widely available.

What engine would you john and isaac prefer for an offroad gokart cause I have a honda gx240 8hp engine is that enough power to get me up to 35 or do I need to go higher anyway it needs new pushrods cause the others like broke in half and idk how I'm a huge fan and thank you guys for getting me into this stuff go power sports is where I'll order all my parts idc who says what I trust them.( way better than amazon) take care guys

It all depends. I prefer a 212 0r 225. The gearing and weight is the deciding factor on speed

Looking at that new minibike frame, I can see that the two top tubes are parallel to both each other and to both of the bottom tubes. What that means to me is that if you wanted to make a really crazy drag racing mini bike you could easily cut the tubes and add additional length to them all using slugs and lengths of tubing. This would help with managing wheelies and with fitting a large engine of some sort. It might also add some stability to the bike at high speeds on the drag strip. Heck, make it long enough and you could even shoehorn two engines into the bike.

I got a coleman ct200u for trade it has the torque converter on it with the mikuni 22 mm carburetor and for some reason I can't get the carbuer set right it seems to run really rich and ive tried everything to fix it

You don't use grease, clean up the entire adjuster and then put a thin coat of "Never seaze" on all the parts of it, threads and the other end. Doesn't freeze or melt or get hard over time.

could make the pedals moveable (or just put blocks of wood on them ) should make it fit for the both of you as for the spring plier , it looks like one of those plier ends on the rear has a tool welded on it to remove those springs you took off with youre fingers i can see youre as big a fan of drumbrakes as me , i ratcher work inside a live beartrap , wish isnt that mush different

fyi, left and right brakes are the same, no need for picture/drawings so long as you only take one side apart, just look at the other side as reference

You should hook up the e-brake to a hand lever. Might be nice to be able to grab some rear brake to slide into corners and still be able to steer. Then dump that clutch and give her the biz!

Do y'all have some sort of upper link in the rear to control the pinion angle? With the suspension travel y'all are gonna have it will likely tear up driveshaft when moving with that solid axle if there isn't something there to correct it. And keep at it! Love seeing some local Carolina guys building some cool stuff!

Its funny how when we started watching long time ago it was old go karts and a wagon some scrap steel and some old motors , now were building frm scratch , love that you guys still just make it up as you go , yes im sure you do a little research on design but still , it will be fine attitude . Times suck with all thats going on , shipping takes too long now but it is what it is i guess . Cant wait to see what this truck , kart thingy looks like all done ....👍
